“This Is Just to Say” by William Carlos Williams

I chose this poem for its ability to make me smile, regardless of how many times I have returned to it over the years. For me, this poem demonstrates  the idea that not every great poem has to be serious to be taken seriously, and that poetry, like any other art form, can pull inspiration from just about anywhere. Enjoy!

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
