The Southwest Review offers the opportunity to be published, but on your own time. They accept submissions September through May, so there is no pressure to meet a deadline.
Southwest Review Writing Contest
Southwest Review is published quarterly. Accepted piece(s) receive nominal payment upon publication and five gratis copies of the issue in which the work appears.
The Southwest Review is seeking fiction and nonfiction entries between 3500 and 7000 words in length and poetry of any length.
Submissions are accepted online for a $2.00 administrative fee. There is no fee for submissions sent by mail. Please address poetry and nonfiction submissions to Willard Spiegelman and fiction submissions to Jennifer Cranfill.
Regular manuscripts will not be accepted during the months of June, July, and August. Contest manuscripts are accepted at any time prior to their entry deadline. The Southwest Review does not accept simultaneous or fax submissions, and does not consider work that has been published previously.
Due to the volume of submissions, the editors cannot respond with suggestions or comments.
